What is an AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD? An Australian Shepherd is a loyal, protective, energetic, eager to please, affectionate dog that is both a beauty to have as it is to behold.  Aussies are classified as a herding dog.  They are highly animated.  You can't help but watch them.  Aussies only live for their owners.  They watch you and want to be with you.  They are a working dog .  They need something to do; whether bring in the herd or bring in the newspaper.  They are an intelligent dog.  I tell my clients: 3 biscuits and you can teach them anything.  Australian Shepherds are an all American breed; born and bred here in America. WHY AN AUSTRALIAN SHEPHERD? Some dogs herd, some hunt, some protect, some track, some are very athletic, some are wonderful companion dogs.  An Aussies is all of this rolled into one.  Whatever you want to do, he is eager to please.  He will be by you side in everything you do and protect you if need be.  We go hiking with ours knowing they will alert us to any danger before we encounter it.  They won't leave your side.  They are a guard dog.  The best defense against home invasion is a dog.  When you come home with your Aussie greeting you, you know he was hard at work guarding your home to keep it safe.  If your children are outside playing, you can rest assured they are safe with an Aussie on guard.  Aussies are used as therapy dogs with their gentle temperament or herding buffalo with their strong herding instincts.  They are tough yet sweet and you won't find a more affectionate dog.  Because of their high intelligence they are easily trained.  They are one of the few dogs that can plan and think ahead.  Why an Aussie?  Because they can "Do It All". They totally bond to their family donating their life to them.  Why an Aussie? Why not two!
WHY A DOG?

Studies have proven that people who own a dog have lower blood pressure, lower heart rate and less stress. Dog owners are less likely to have a heart attack and if they do have one, are 4 times more apt to recouperate from a heart attack. Dogs extend both your life and quality of life. By petting your dog you release oxytosen that causes you to bond  with your dog. The dog who is being petted will in return, release oxytosen which will make him bond to you. New research has found that dogs are far more intelligent than once thought. Dogs can read our minds and body language as we can theirs. They have developed emotion like humans and can comfort us.

Aussies and Children; a match made in Heaven!
A wise man once said, "the white man, who is like a God but yet a great fool, once said that a dog has no soul.  This cannot be.  Many times I have seen my dog's soul in his eyes".
NOTE: Minature Australian Shepherds, which are becoming popular now,  are not recognized as a variety of Australian Shepherds by either AKC or ASCA.  Australian Shepherds are a working/herding dog. They are built tough and strong. We only raise standard Australian Shepherds.
