|Before you get an Aussie:
If you are wanting to get an Aussie puppy, be sure you can
handle it. Aussies are HIGH MAINTENANCE dogs. That means
they need a lot of training, grooming and socialization. If you
cannot exercise your dog every single day, put in training time
where you are one on one with your dog for at least 20 minutes
twice a day, and groom your dog every couple of days, dont' get
an Aussie. They need training. They are a high energy herding
dog and if you don't work with them, they will get out of control.
They will herd and nip at the kids, get destructive, wonder and
become aggressive. They need direction and gentle training.
They need lots of exercise, not just a walk around the block on a
leash. They need to run and climb and dance and play every day.
They need socialization with strangers and dogs. They need to be
around other people and dogs right at the beginning so they do
not fear and become aggressive. Aussies can be the best dog you
every had or the worse. It all depends on you. If they become a
dog you can't live with or do not enjoy, it is your fault, not the
dogs. So please, if you can't spend a lot of time with a dog, don't
get an Aussie. If you start having training issues get help from a
good professional positive dog trainer before it becomes a norm
for you dog.
